I took part in the Japanese game jam event making a stupid game in 24 hours Ahoge (あほげー) with @rikfuzz at his house!

The theme this time is … Albatross!?

What’s an albatross…? What I could imagine from the word was only an enemy from SaGa 1 (Game Boy).

Oh, Albatross is an English name of Ahodori (アホウドリ)! I see!

The start time was 21:00 15th (Fri) July to the same time of the next day but there is minus 8 hours time difference for us.

As for me I’m a Neet so I could sleep well until the announcement of the theme, but as for a professional worker Rik, it was actually so hard. 8 hours had already passed when he started it.

Our works are here!

Phoenix Neet (Ahoge ver.) (@noragames)

Neet means “Not in Education, Employment, or Training”. Damn, how did I became a Neet? Examine the evidence and uncover the truth!

A phoenix is a bird like an albatross. I hope you can accept that connection.

Albatross Hunter (@rikfuzz)

Bring me an egg, mew!

Rik was failed another competition spending too much time on graphics. I was really wishing he can make it on time this time.

In direct terms excluding our friendship, to talk about quality I think his one is the best in the all entries. I know making ppl laugh in a different culture is so hard, but he made it well easily. I was so surprised. Why his one didn’t go to the top was I think because unfortunately his work was too nice to compare the stupidness. He got to know the concept of this competition now so I think he can work even better next time. The total time he could use for this game was just 13 hours! It sounds impossible. He is awesome!

All Entries of 1st Ahoge
http://ahoge.info/1/

Job well done party and the announcement of the winner (UStream.tv)
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/16060807

These are my reviews. (Spoilers ahead!)

アルバトロスくん決死のコーディネート (Mr. Albatross’s serious coordinate) is actually a good game apart from the part he might have just put “Albatross” into the title after the fact. Make Mr. Albatross dress nicely to ask pretty girls for a date! This game was the winner this time. Congratulations!

アルバートロスへ行く (Albert goes to LA) is made by my old friend @noppikinatta and it was his first work. Pull the car with mouse and release it to make it run. It feels so nice and reminded me Katamari Damacy. It could be even nicer if it had sound effects. That’s a shame. This game uses English apart from the title screen. That is also one of good points.

アルバとロス (Alba and Ross) can be played by adult only I think. We laughed at this game a lot.

すーぱーアルバトロスクイーン！ (Super Albatross Queen) has an awesome unique humor. Just play it. It makes us realize great humor is the most important focus for such a short time compo like this.

アホウドリの頭の上にタンポポを乗せる仕事 (Job offer putting dandelions on albatross’s heads) is good cos it doesn’t have any penalty for your mistakes. You can put dandelions as many as you want anywhere though your boss will get angry.

鳩を探して三千里 (3000 Leagues in Search of Pigeon) has a nice voice work. It made us laugh straight away!

アルバトロス的な何か (Something like an albatross) is playable as a proper game. It made me concentrate on the game play and forget to check out the stupid things in it.

That’s all. Those are my favorite.

Well done, people who entered it and the host members! Take a well deserved rest.

I took part in the 20th Ludum Dare last weekend, which is a famous game competition developing a game in 48 hours.

The theme was “It’s Dangerous to go Alone! Take this!” this time.

“It’s Dangerous to go Alone! Take this!” is a reference from the original The Legend of Zelda game. The old man in the first cave gives Link a sword to protect himself.

What’s Ludum Dare? (Japanese)
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/norashishi/20100419/1271685819

As for me, I went to Cambridge to take part in it with other participants at CB2 cafe and made The Legend of Mulida (Mulida no Densetsu).

The Legend of Mulida

It’s my twitter time line during the Ludum Dare time. (most of posts are in Japanese)
http://togetter.com/li/131225
(It’s funny cos so many accidents had happened)

“Mulida” is a coined word I made mixing “Muri da” (means it’s impossible in Japanese) and “Zelda“.

I was also inspired by the Royal Wedding during the LD48 weekend. The purpose of this game saving the princess is a kind of my message to wish them a happy future.

I was trying to make such a game satisfying the players dodging desire like Toho shooting games. But such a hard game was made in terms of results somehow.

Unexpectedly a famous indie game news site wrote about my game in the morning just day after the deadline and also playthrough video was uploaded on YouTube. I got to know that on the bus coming back from Cambridge to London and was so surprised.

Browser Game Pick: The Legend of Mulida (Nora Shishi)

I’m surprised the IndieGames.com writer still remembered I’m the author of Norapoly. Making the site name, own name and the game’s name similar to each other brings such a nice effect! I couldn’t make the game’s name sounds familiar this time though.

A shooting game like this was made as a result. The idea of kissing has come from Scott Pilgrim. Take the couple your enemy please.

The speed of the hearts is determined by your current combo – for top scores, wait for several slow hearts to appear to get a big multiplier!

Aim for over 30000 points!
